By now pretty much everyone under the sun has heard of “iPhone Apps” & probably every entrepreneur has had an idea for one.
Of course as entrepreneurs the idea of going off and learning a programming language to develop an application would be extremely time consuming and real waste of resources & that’s exactly what Michael Moon & Quoc Bui taught.
So they went ahead and used Elance to outsource the creation of the ideas they had for iPhone Applications & a couple years later their sitting on an $800,000 a year business!
I really admire guys like that. We all think of great ideas but often never put the ball rolling & start making them a reality, I’m as guilty of that as the next person. I have used Elance for smaller projects such as web design, copywriting even a small app for the android platform but I guess what I’m trying to say to myself & to you is don’t be afraid to dream big there are ways & means to make those dreams become a reality & outsourcing is just one those ways and that’s why outsourcing kicks butt!

If your a wise person, It would be better outsource a person to do what you can’t plus it would surely cost less.
Absolutely Keith. Sometimes learning to do a task can cost more then paying someone else to do it for you.

I really like the excitement behind this post, Mark! Outsourcing can indeed, be a key strategy toward success and having access to various resources can make it even better. Elance seems to have worked for these guys — Now think of what outsourcing through vWorker could do. (vWorker is the new Rentacoder.) The diff?
How about a money back guarantee? Free escrowing? Unlimited access to 300,000 programmers? 0 fees?
Whatever new idea you have going on there, try it out at vWorker. It’s literally a no risk decision even for that next $800,000 a year business venture.
Hey Nicole,
Thanks for the heads up. Must take a look at vWorker.
Cheers,
Mark
I’m still a relative newbie but like a lot of people, I struggle with “taking the plunge” with my ideas but I learned very quickly that outsourcing is absolutely vital for success.
Big ideas are useless without the get up and go to kickstart their creation.
Hey Jay,
Ya I think we’re all guilty of not ‘taking the plunge’ at times but you’re dead right ideas are useless without implementation.

Outsourcing has paved the way for small business to be bigger by having a virtual office with outsourced staff.
The playing field has dramatically changed since then.
It’s all very well saying that you have to take the plunge and start outsourcing however people need to do their research and make sure that they get what they pay for or your going to be losing a lot of money fast.
As far as I know in terms of developing a good and polished App for use on apples platform costs anywhere between $50,000 to $200,000, I’m not sure most of us here have that kind of resource.
You can outsource everything but you can only get what you pay for
Hi Khizir,
I generally agree with you, you only get what you pay for. However here in Ireland to hire for example a programmer can be very expensive but you can hire one with the same skill sets from China, India or the Philippines for much less & still get the skills you requested and the results you wanted.
A friend & I had an Android app developed for about 180euro. The app works perfectly & does exactly what it’s supposed to do but to have someone in Europe or the U.S. do this would have cost us at least 10 times as much.
It’s just a small example of how outsourcing can help smaller businesses but like you said you do have to do you’re research. Like with any job make sure the person you’re hiring has the right skill sets & track record to complete the task. Most sites including Elance let you review the persons work once their finished & you can view all the previous jobs a person has done and the ratings they received and of course don’t be afraid to pick up the phone or skype someone to make sure you’ve got the right person for the job.

Sweet idea! I’m really thinking about outsourcing a big programming project to elance as well. In the past I only have really used it for simpler tasks such as article writing, some graphics work, etc. But it’s good to hear that people have had success with bigger projects.
And if I’m sitting on an $800,000 business in a few years I won’t forget you Mark haha.
