Important Traffic Tip (Do you recycle?)

Do you know the one secret to getting non stop traffic? If you don’t, you’re probably not getting it, are you? Interestingly enough, it’s really simple – and yet so complex that most people who want to make money on the Internet miss it entirely.

The secret to getting non stop traffic is giving your visitors a compelling reason to continue to come back to your site.

Put yourself in this situation. Pretend that you have a site that receives 10,000 visitors a month from natural search engine traffic. Let’s also say that this site has no mechanism for recycling traffic. Could you make money off of that traffic? Of course, you could.

Now, let’s say you have some recycling mechanism, such as a forum or an automatic “favorites” pop-up. And let’s say that you are able to effectively recycle 70% of your traffic. Assuming your natural search engine rankings don’t improve, you will receive 10,000 unique visitors the first month. The second month, you will receive 17,000. The third, you will receive 24,000. The fourth, you will receive 31,000 – and so on.

Do you see the power of this technique? All you have to do is give visitors a reason to keep coming back; and you can do that in a number of different ways.

One way is to offer some service that they can’t get in many other places. Perhaps you could offer free image hosting. Another way is to setup a community forum, which will keep traffic returning again and again. Additionally, you could offer a free URL cloaking service or dynamic content that is updated on a daily basis.

Whatever you do, provide excellent content and tools for your visitors and they will return again and again, increasing your traffic each month, rather than leaving it stagnant, as it was in the first model.

I guess the biggest recycling of all is your newsletter which can refer subscribers to perhaps new features on your site or blog.

Very interesting, Mike. I’m going to try using this on my site, and I’m sure it will help if you say it will.

Some things that makes me stop going to a site is when the administrator doesn’t have an email address to contact him/her, requires you to join to make contact, or has links that don’t work, doesn’t give you enough information to verify who they are and if they are legitimate or not. Whenever i buy something on the net i want to know a physical address and business name and be able to verify it, that helps me trust the site. Sometimes i look at a product that i want and then click on the link that should go to the sales page but goes nowhere. Naturally i try to contact the site owner to see if the link is broken; low and behold, no email, phone or physical mailing address, no business name, but a link to join in order to contact, a list of products but not the product i’m interested in at the moment.
Say who you are and give a way that can verify it. Have what you say you have on your site. Give people a way to contact you if they have questions or suggestions. Otherwise if they hit one snag, they will find the rest of the snags and run away and probably they should.

    HI Everyone

Yes as above, i agree - as an electronica music artist its maybe easier for us as we can offer revolving free tracks and ringtone soundtracks that visitors come back for - messageboard/forum and regular newsletter informing our fans about the latest digitalTRAFFIC sounds and free downloads.

also networking and interacting with as many electronica / music download sites as possible (hard work but worthwhile as we are introducing our work to new listeners constantly.

Dont underestimate the power of a good podcast - sign up for the many free sites and create unique valuable content and you could be onto a real winner.

Make a video - anything visual that is funny interesting unusual wierd and wonderful - attract viral growth via YouTube etc - if it is truly outstanding it will be picked up by the media - your video could be about your products, your industry, your fan site, you, etc - be creative.

Make a free monthly report on your product / industry / news resources / etc - make it a useful resource for people they will keep coming back for the latest update.

All these should help increase returning visitors.

    all the very best

Yup, giving out free stuff really help in bringing in traffic. Another way is to create free to use software. It will also give people a reason to return to your site.
