Most businesses now know if they don’t start using & embracing social media that they’re going to fall behind their competition. Think about it, of all the local restaurants in your area, if you are friends with one of them on facebook & you’re constantly seeing their brand, their website, their menu & their special offers aren’t you more likely to go visit that restaurant over the others.

Of course providing the business fundamentals of the restaurant such as good food & good customer service are there. But all these being equal the restaurant that’s in front you everyday when you go look at your facebook page is more likely to get your business. And businesses now know this and need people to mange their facebook, twitter & other social media properties.

Here’s an awesome audio interview Ryan Deiss did with Social Media Manger Kate Buck where she reveals how she started her own social media management business. A lot of great free info is revealed here so listen carefully!

    Hey Mark,

This is a new concept to me, had heard sommething a little while ago about managing local businesses advertising campaigns google, yahoo and MSN PPC platforms, as a matter of fact a few of the big IM`s are recommending doing this!

Butr I think the socialmedia approach you mention is the better option, as it has the viral effect stamped permanently on the net!

    Great concept Mark….Ed.

THANKS A BUNCH for that ever so informative interview!! I’m just getting started as a social media manager, being that I have been involved w/ all things tech, all things interactive and all things social (and have been for the last couple of years) I’m overjoyed that this new position has been created. My referrals are through friends (at this point) and as of today I started looking for specific info about actually building my own business. I’m thrilled that Kate will be selling videos soon, I’ll be one of the 1st people to buy them :) Thanks again, that interview was terrific.

    Hi Mark,
I’ve joined Ryan and Kate in this program. It’s killer.
Holy crap! There is a ton of stuff to learn. I’m using it my own businesses as a pilot and to work the bugs out before I actually take on any clients.
There really is a demand though. I dropped a hint about this on one of my Facebook pages and within an hour had my first potential client. That really motivated me to dig in and learn my chops.
    Thanks

  8. Mark Flavin says:

  9. Marlene says:

I have the program from Kate Buck. She really knows her stuff! She has several employees though. I also recommend Traffic Revolution software that does a lot of the posting automatically and alerts you when to post your clients stuff, monetize Social Media accounts and a Lot More! You can set up unlimited accounts in it for all your clients. I think the Software is Closed and not open to new customers at this time, but I can get some copies from the designer if anyone’s interested at: Mall@NewMediaOnlineMarketing.com

  10. John says:

Wow, powerful stuff here.. Mark you ROCK!!!!

I own 4 restaurants and I use this company call http://www.sociallybuzz.com to manage all my social media presence. They have I think about 50 social media account managers, but i have one dedicated to my company, that manage everything for me.. This works great for me because I do not have to hire a staff member and i dont have to worry about paying out out medical, or dental benefits, etc.. because they already provide that to there employees.

This made my life so much easier and I can focus on better things like growing my business, while having a trust worthy company manage my social media presence online.

Also Mark, were u at Social Media Week L.A last week?

    John,

  11. Mark Flavin says:

    Hi John,

No I wasn’t at social media week. Did you go? I’m over in Ireland so it’s a bit of a drive!

    Mark

  12. Chuck says:

As part of your SEO program it is getting to be essential to have your social media managed for you. There are so many outlets but mostly FaceBook and Twitter have to be set up to give your business an image of professionalism and a great way to interact with your customers. Incentives to become ‘fans’ seems to be the quickest way to have a good volume of fans. Something free or a good discount unavailable anywhere else.

A consistent online presence will enable you to brand yourself/your business and get trust. quickly that will turn these fans into customers quicker than previously possible.

Pretty much a must have for future Business.

  13. paul says:

Interesting interview, but sort your levels out – my ears are bleeding.

  14. Chris Egan says:

Great post – but things are constantly moving and to that end we have developed a new software to help run Social Media Marketing businesses – the software creates reports that show where prospects are or are not when it comes to their visibility – plus includes task management and reporting for invoicing and activity.

  15. This is something that I’ve only fairly recently learned about. To be honest, I used to be one of those people who thought Facebook, Twitter and all the rest of social media was a load of bunkum (ha ha!). I’ve since realised that we really are moving into another world altogether – one that we’ve probably all seen in ‘Minority Report’, and that we’re just part of the way there now. I’ve reached the stage where I find it difficult to believe someone can have a business without using social media. I thought it was a fascinating interview on a subject that’s getting bigger and bigger all the time.

  16. Hi Richard,

Yes its growing and growing, it is still sometimes difficult to quantify the value, but if you think about thousands of businesses, all with too much to do already, and a relatively low cost to outsource, its perfect, they get to avoid any technical headaches (and usually big time waste) and leave to someone who knows what they are doing, the Social Media Marketing manager could be 16 or 60, could have a diploma or be a high school dropout, because what works best is social skills – communication, and the discipline of doing the marketing can be learned, its pretty simple.

  17. Rio says:

hey there. Is it really that easy?do we really need only excellent communication skills and marketing?i always thought it was more complictaed than that.
Can you please elaborate on that?

  18. media girl says:

thank you all for the advices

  19. Anu Veth says:

I like the words ‘social media manager.’ Currently, I think it is the hottest job around. With the Facebook, Twitter and other sites that encourage people to connect and make networks easier it is no surprise that social media is chanted like a mantra everywhere. Anyway thanks for the article.
