No matter what type of email you send out, you’ll need a mailing list. The basic way to build a mailing list is by capturing name and email address information for everyone who buys or shows interest in your product.
An email list that YOU COLLECT YOURSELF is worth its weight in gold. This can be accomplished by using a list manager on your site such as Aweber. List managers also provide the HTML coding for the form on the Gateway pages. A list manager collects the email addresses that are gathered with the form. Thus, your email list is collected. This might take some time so there are methods to use until you get your own email list built.
One way to build a mailing list is to do ad swaps with other list owners. The way this works is, you (as company A) have an email list that you send newsletters to and another list owner (company B) has a list they send newsletters to. Company A and Company B place ads on one another’s mailing lists. Each of you is promoting the other’s list.
You can rent or buy targeted email lists. The list you develop using your own customers’ names is called your “house list.” Of course, when you’re first starting out, your house list is likely to be skimpy. To augment it, one way to go is rent or buy a mailing list. There are two ways to buy or rent a mailing list—approaching the company you want to rent from directly or using a list broker. Any company that emails information to its customers usually has a list manager, who handles inquiries and orders for the mailing list.
Another way to build an email list is to list your newsletter in all of the ezine directories such as:

Don’t forget Mark, that once people hit your squeeze page/landing page there needs to be an incredible sense of urgency or desire instilled into that person to do something “there and then” or else… if they simply add their name and address, for 3 mere seconds of effort, they will get $1million… as an example.. this would cost you quite a bit, so instead, offer them some HOT information, trick or tip thats quietly helping you.. this information can have a monetary value attached to it.. perhaps it’s worth $200 because it saves you 10 hours per month at a wage of $20/hour.. and if they get it today, then they will be using it for a full 7 days before anybody else online is.
The silly way to go is to offer them an ebook worth 99p you bought from ebay.
hmm…
Well there ya go.. good hunting!
Alternatively you could inject fear, or a sense of loss.. people react to greed and fear, so target these 2 emotions in people, make this emotion hightened enough to take action, such as..
“I had 10 bills to pay by the end of the month. I needed to find $1600 and my bank balance was minus $2000. I was 3 months behind on my mortgage and my house was weeks away from being repossessed. This was it.. do or die.. My wife needed an operation which we couldn’t afford, so I sold my wedding ring, bought this, and followed the simple steps.
3 days later I was crying with emotion. I had eared over $4000, something I had never done in my entire life.
This works… it willl cnage your life.”
etc…
Thanks!!!
Shaun
Hi Mark,
As always your article is too the point and spot on. You need to have a list if your business is to survive. I collect most of my subscribers via my Aweber form on my sales page. It’s a static form too not one that hovers in. I did have a hover form but I find that the static one works a lot better. I also have it at the end of my sales page which seems to work very well.
Thanks for the advice about listing your newsletter in ezine directories. This is something I hadn’t thought of and will definitely look into.
There are of course a lot of list building programs doing the rounds at the moment such as viralshock, my lucky list, list cube, etc but I have to say I really do prefer to have my own personal list because I know that these people want to hear from me and that makes all the difference.
Hi Mark,
Thanks for mentioning the newletter listing advice – another thing I didn’t know about. I appreciate your sharing.
My list at the moment is 0 … and am about to start in two days (as soon as I’ve checked the autoresponders and written a couple more follow up emails)
As this is my first online adventure I’m looking forward to the learning curve.
thanks for your help.
Hey Mark,
Another way is to become a JV Partner in a JV Giveaway. I have actually increased my list by 30 people, by joining 4 GiveAways, and have been partnered with 4 other people, as well as Have JV’ed with another person.
That seems to work for me as well.
Hi Mark,
Excellent Contenet as usual. I, too, highly recommend aweber. Not only will it manage your list for you, but like you said, it will automatically generate the custom line of code for you that you can copy and paste on your site or blog to instantly create your web form to capture leads.
It’s simple. Then you can pre-write emails and load them into your aweber autoresponder to follow up with your leads.
Anyone who is NOT using aweber right now is NOT serious about making money online. Another necessary software or system to have in place is a downline builder or traffic generator. You really need to have at least one of these to build you large streams of ongoing traffic in addition to other resources you have. For all of those who are serious and would enjoy having a powerful viral software generate traffic for them for free, you can get the same professional system that generates traffic for me on autopilot absoulutely free just by clicking on my name!
Enjoy!
Hi Mark,

of months ago and have built a list of
